K. Nicole Mills is a Los Angeles-based filmmaker and storyteller with a passion for creating impactful narratives. Her acclaimed short film A RACE IN THE SUN has been showcased at Oscar-Qualifying Film Festivals, including DOC NYC, Urbanworld Film Festival, Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival, BlackStar Film Festival, and more. The film won Best Short Documentary at prestigious festivals such as the Santa Barbara Short Film Festival, DC Black Film Festival, Reel Sisters Film Festival, and Maryland Film Festival.A RACE IN THE SUN highlights the journey of Ayesha McGowan, who broke barriers as the world's first African American professional female cyclist, rising through the underground cycling scene in New York City.K. Nicole’s creative journey began with a love for writing and photography, which eventually led her to filmmaking. She honed her skills while working on high-profile projects like Space Jam: A New Legacy, Amazon’s Harlem (created by Tracy Oliver), Hulu’s Wu-Tang: An American Saga, and various NBC pilots. Her career started in the NBC Page Program, after which she transitioned into Development and Alternative Programming. During this time, she contributed to hit shows like The Voice and The Biggest Loser. Additionally, she served as an Associate Producer for ESPN’s 30 for 30 series.K. Nicole is currently in production for her next film under her production company, The Athleap. Driven by a deep commitment to amplify underrepresented voices and bring untold stories to light, she is passionately dedicated to creating films that challenge perceptions, inspire audiences, and spark meaningful conversations. With every project, she seeks to push boundaries, embracing the power of storytelling to ignite change and uplift those whose stories deserve to be seen and heard.
